AE-SPM Group Showcases Automated Microscopy Advances at CVPR 2025

On 12 June 2025, the AE-SPM group from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville made a landmark appearance at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). Sergei Kalinin delivered his first keynote at a premier machine-learning conference, highlighting the group’s breakthroughs in integrating AI with electron and scanning-probe microscopy to accelerate materials discovery.

Utkarsh Pratiush demonstrated the group’s orchestration software for automated STEM workflows, showcasing how AE-SPM’s platform seamlessly coordinates multiple instruments and AI-driven decision making.

Yu Liu unveiled novel active-learning strategies for materials discovery via automated scanning-probe microscopy, illustrating how the AE-SPM framework maps complex nanoscale phenomena with high efficiency.
